Lions Park, Port Coquitlam Artist in Residence
Eco-Prints
2022
During my art residency at Lions Park in Port Coquitlam, I created a series of eco-prints with the community. I found a piece of iron in the park, and combined it with water from the Coquitlam river to create iron water. I also consulted with City of Port Coquitlam Parks staff to identify plants considered to be invasive and safe to pull from the park to use in this project. The leaves from these plants were then used to make eco-prints on fabric and on paper during community art making sessions.
At the end of this four month project, the eco-prints were displayed on the trees in the park as "tree sweaters", inspired by what trees look like after Ivy (hedera helix) has been removed from them.
Thank you to City of Port Coquitlam, School District 43 (notably James Park Elementary), Our Social Fabric, and everyone who attended my art workshops during this residency.
