Back in 2022 I began a conversation with English ivy to let her teach me how to weave with her.

Weaving ivy is medicine to me, as well as the land. It is the way I honour her while also ensuring she does not overtake all the other plants that are growing in her vicinity.
I used the ivy I got to pull with Langley Environmental Partners back in May 2022. Many of the pieces were thick yet springy. I tried to peel them into thinner pieces but they were too established. They became the "petals" on this flower, flexible enough to be shaped and thick enough that when you drop this piece it bounces.

I had a sweet photo shoot with this piece, and in it she is hanging out with her good friend Himalayan Blackberry- the prickles of the giant vine I found are what is holding this sculpture up in the air. I absolutely adore when synchronicities like this happen- following my intuition and the whispers of nature to spots like this where there is the most convenient vine hanging at the perfect height.
I am so in love with how it turned out and in awe of what I have learned through this process.
